Suggested Guidelines /Accommodations for Students with Peanut Allergies
Parents will provide all medications which will be administered according to GVSD medication policy guidelines which can be found in the Policy Book on page 32.
A “no sharing and no trading” food policy at lunch and snack time will be encouraged.
Parents will provide all safe snacks and lunches for their child.
The student will be permitted and encouraged to have a snack brought in from home instead of a community snack on occasions when theclass is sharing food.
Substitute teachers will be made aware of student’s allergy by their regular subject teachers.
The student will be permitted to choose seating, so as not to be sitting next to or across from a student who is consuming a peanut product
Cafeteria tables will be wiped down prior to each lunch period.
School staff will be notified of student’s peanut allergy at the beginning of the school year, by his/her parents and the school nurse.
Bus drivers will be made aware of the student’s allergy and emergency protocol via GVSD policies.
Cafeteria staff will be notified of the student’s peanut allergy.
Staff will be educated on signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and emergency procedures to follow in the event of a reaction.
Teachers will demonstrate the use of the Epi-Pen (via Epi-Pen trainer) with the nurse prior to going field trips.
