HAGLEY MUSEUM Hagley Museum and Library is looking for volunteer SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS for educational fun summer camps. Hagley Museum's summer camps are unique learning adventures, integrating history, science, and the arts. Counselors work approximately thirty-five hours per week (8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m). One of our programs, High School Summer College, is an academically selective program that provides mature, advanced high school students access to undergraduate coursework at Stanford. Summer College is an eight-week college experience that provides academic, social, and intellectual opportunities not found in a high school classroom. BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY Bucknell University will hold a Summer Program for rising High School Seniors (juniors heading into their senior year). About 80 students will be selected to participate in the program offered at Bucknell University. Participants in the The Shaping Your World: Social Media in the 21st Century Program will join Bucknell Professors in exploring how social media influences political action, artistic expression, business, scientific understanding, innovation and other areas of life. Shaping Your World runs from Sunday, July 7, through Wednesday, July 10, 2013. The fee is $500, but financial aid is available for those that qualify. THE AMERICAN LEGION BOYS AND GIRLS STATE PROGRAM Summer Program: The American Legion Boys and Girls State programs are a unique week long summertime educational program that does not emphasize classroom lectures and textbook learning. Instead, it focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of its respective state government. DREXEL UNIVERSITY COMPUTING ACADEMY Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA) is a five-week, residential summer learning experience at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Through DUCA, students explore all computing degree programs at Drexel university. This program is available to academically talented high school students currently in their sophomore or junior academic years. DUCA is a tuition based program but scholarships are available for those that qualify. This 1-week summer day camp is open to high school students (including 2013 graduates) ages 15 years and older (as of the start of the camp) interested in exploring careers in medicine. The Health and Biomedical Sciences Camp will provide a fun, challenging and engaging college environment in which students will develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be a biomedical scientist and health professional. Through lectures and hands-on laboratory investigations in state-of-the-art laboratories, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, biochemistry and medical ethics. Students will learn how laboratory science can be translated into improved human health, and they will engage in investigation experiences that will allow them to apply their laboratory skills to real life problems. In addition, students will interact with practicing professionals in fields such as medicine, physical therapy, toxicology, genetic counseling and biomedical laboratory research. The School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania offers a unique program for a selective group of high school students to experience rigorous and challenging college-level coursework. The three-week Summer Academy in Applied Science and Technology (SAAST) combines sophisticated theory with hands-on -practical experience in cutting-edge technologies. Students will spend two weeks on the BU campus participating in investigative reporting seminars led by University faculty and award-winning local and national journalists.
