Garnet Valley School District operates a large bus fleet, consisting of more than seventy-two (72) school buses and vans that transport over 5700 students to public and private schools each day.
The Transportation Department employs seventy-three (73) full and part-time drivers who receive full training, mandated by federal and state laws, in transporting the district"s students. Of these drivers, 75% are area residents. During the summer months the buses are cleaned and sanitized. They are meticulously inspected by expert mechanics in order to prepare them for a laborious State Police summer inspection before they begin their fall routes.
Bus routes are developed in the early summer and finalized in early August, using the computerized bus routing system. Student bus information is sent to parents by mid-August in the student information packet. The Transportation Department is constantly seeking new drivers and bus paraprofessionals.
