Course Description:
This course is an introduction to healthy eating and cooking, based on current nutritional guidelines and recommendations.
Course Objectives: 
  • Total wellness involves your physical health, mental health and social health throughout life.
  • Students will be able to choose healthful behaviors such as eating right, staying fit, and managing stress to help meet your wellness goals.
  • Identify and use hand tools, utensils, and measuring equipment in food preperation
  • Demonstrate skill in using and maintaining  all equipment in classroom
  • Prepare and study healthy foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Reinforce basic skills, including math, reading and science.
Course Expectations:
Class activities will include lecture, demonstrations,videos, discussion, group work, hands-on food labs and group cooperative product outcome and presentation. Students are expected to keep a notebook for any handouts. The notebook should contain lecture notes, handouts, assignments and returned quizzes and papers.

Evaluation Process/Student Responsibilities:
Students wil be evaluated on class and food lab participation, attendance, projects, quizzes and examinations.In the event a student misses a food lab, there is a make-up assignment due within one week. Examinations or quizzes missed due to illness are to be made up within one week. It is the responsibility of the student to consult the teacher for any make-up. Any unexcused missed assignments or tests will result in a grade deduction.
