Attention Parents of Fifth Grade Students!
Five years have flown by!  It is hard to believe that our fifth graders are leaving us! The Fifth Grade Promotion Assembly will be held on Wednesday, June 12th at 1:30 in the BSES gym. Please be seated for the assembly by 1:15 so that we may begin on time. Siblings who attend BSES will not be permitted to attend the assembly, but the assembly will be broadcast throughout the school via closed circuit TV for those who wish to watch it.  Parents will take their fifth graders home after the assembly, but we ask that you allow siblings at BSES to take the bus home or come back to pick them up at dismissal time. We look forward to wishing our fifth graders well as they move on to middle school!

Facebook campaign to fight malaria  Act Globally and Locally: The Helping Hands Club of Bethel Springs is conducting a final service project for the year that will begin on Monday, May 20th and extend until Thursday, May 30th. To reach out globally we are collecting spare change in order to purchase mosquito nets for families in Africa. As you know, we are learning about Africa in school this year and it is the focus of the upcoming Art and Literature Fling. Malaria is a devastating health issue for many in Africa, particularly children. The use of mosquito nets can reduce the possibility of contracting this menacing disease. We will place a large container in the lobby each day for children to deposit spare change. We will use the accumulated funds to purchase as many mosquito nets as we can.  Our thanks to Mrs. Heather Urso for being our contact to get the nets to where they need to go. To reach out locally we will be collecting canned and boxed foods for the Second Harvest Food Pantry in Media. Summer is a particularly lean time for most food banks, so we would like to help Second Harvest stock up. There will be a flyer coming home from Mrs. Cashell and Ms. Konkle which will detail the items to be collected. We thank you, in advance, for your support as we seek to help our students learn the importance of caring for others.   Young Writers/Young Readers Camps and Classes PAWLP Young Readers/Young Writers Camp: West Chester University is once again offering the Young Readers/Young Writers program at Bethel Springs for students completing grade K - 5. It is a wonderful program that inspires and encourages young readers and writers--and it is loads of fun!  Here is the link to the program brochure.

Dress Code: As it seems that weather is finally becoming warm, I wish to give just a few reminders about dress code:
  • Flip flops or other backless sandals may not be worn.  Sandals can be worn but they must have a backstrap.
  • Shorts can be worn, but must be of an appropriate length.
  • Sleeveless tops may be worn (no thin "spaghetti" straps).  Good "rule of thumb"--straps should be at least the width of two fingers.

Student not dressed appropriately will have to alter their dress or call home for someone to bring appropriate clothing.  Students may have to wait in the office until clothing is brought to school.

I appreciate the effort that so many parents make to have our students come to school suitably dressed each day!  Thank you!

Beginner ChorusGrade 4/5 Choral Concert: On May 20th the fourth and fifth grade concert will include a late 16th century round "Jubilate Deo" by Michael Praetorius; spirited songs "The Fox," "My Shadow," "An African Wish" and "Liza", and culminate with a finale with all chorus members singing "Thank You , Soldiers," by Mike and Angela Souders. The finale piece will feature a touching slide show of veterans young and old and their families. Bethel Springs Elementary School choral ensembles are under the direction of Mrs. Melissa Adam, Garnet Valley Elementary School choral ensembles are under the direction of Mr. Joel Lenderman and both schools assisted by Mrs. Angela DeMarro and Mrs. Jenna Burke, accompanists. Both concerts will begin at 7:00 PM and will be held at the Garnet Valley High School Performing Arts Center.
