THE PHILOSOPHY OF GARNET VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL Since education is the process of preparing pupils to function in society, we believe they should have the opportunity to be educated so that they will develop as individuals with positive self-images, with an education foundation which enables them to realize their full potential. This process requires a supportive environment in the home and in the school. It is the school's responsibility to create a positive attitude toward learning which will challenge students intellectually and encourage cultural and aesthetic appreciation, better physical and mental health, encourage creativity, and an awareness of their moral responsibilities. We believe it is our responsibility to promote ways of thinking and feeling that create an understanding and an appreciation of the ideals of American democracy. We believe that an educational philosophy should be responsive to the changing needs of the community. It is the responsibility of pupils with appropriate guidance to avail themselves of the opportunities provided. |
